This review was written 7 months ago. Yes, now there’s a ton of similar platforms. I may write a more extensive review of them at some point. Check out my updated reviews of Rally (September ’20) https://www.conferencesthatwork.com/index.php/event-design/2020/09/review-online-social-platform-rally/, and all three platforms (November ’20) https://www.conferencesthatwork.com/index.php/event-design/2020/11/gatherly-rally-wonder-review/.

Gather.town can do that. I went to a 1k person conference just a month ago.

Abena, both platforms allow a host to broadcast to everyone in a room. I suggest you check out their demo sessions and free trials. Also, include rally.video, for which I wrote a separate review.

Finally, I expect to post an update of my reviews on all three platforms soon, so keep an eye out for that!

I’m thinking of using one of these platforms for a pub quiz setup. Do any of these platforms allow a “quiz master” role, where one person can be heard by everyone in all rooms?

You can run small workshops inside Gatherly (or Rally.video; see my separate review) since they both have a “stage” capability where one or more people can broadcast to a floor/room. Both have chat, and the floors/rooms are the equivalent of breakout rooms, and potentially more flexible.

You can’t currently run Zoom and one of these platforms _simultaneously_ on the same computer, since they both need access to the camera/microphone/speakers.

If I use either, would I also need Zoom to run the actual break-out workshops — Up to 300 people (Zoom’s business platform) or up to 100 people (their regular platform) with the ability to screen share or run a chat box or do break-out rooms? Or should I integrate one with Zoom?

In Gatherly you can now broadcast to everyone in the room (and, possibly at this point, everyone in all rooms). Is that what you are looking for?

What I’m searching for is something with the conference visualisation of Gatherly/YoTribe (the floor plan with rooms & everyone’s name on it), that also has the ability to handle video calls with 50-100 people that can result from people moving around the floor space.
